FOCUS

FOCUS programs were designed to give you a powerful interdisciplinary experience that begins with your first days at Washington University. FOCUS programs concentrate on central issues in the Humanities. Like Text & Tradition, a FOCUS program will give you a strong grounding in advanced methods in the Humanities; they therefore flow naturally into the IPH major.

Some recent FOCUS programs in the Humanities include:

  • Nationalism and Identity: The Making of Modern Europe
  • Writers as Readers
  • Global Culture and the Individual: Intercultural Skills for the 21st Century
  • The Theatre as a Living Art
  • Cooperative Living, Community Building, and Sustainability
  • Cuban Transitions: From Colonialism to Communism
  • Literary Culture of Modern Ireland
  • The Created Past, The Recovered Future: Studies in Medieval and Renaissance Culture
  • Text & Tradition
