Professor Childs specializes in the study of early twentieth-century European art, with special interest in the primitivism of Gauguin. She has taught in the FOCUS program on European Nationalism and is currently developing courses in museology and in caricature.

Professor Cuille has a doctorate in French Literature from the ENS Lettres et Sciences Humaines (Lyon). He is revising a book on poetry and scientific knowledge based on the work of Michel Foucault and the poet Francis Ponge. His second book project focuses on what he calls the ideology of speed in the French and Italian avant-gardes.

Gerald Early

Gerald Early is Merle Kling Professor of Modern Letters, Professor of English and of African and Afro-American Studies, Director of the Center for Humanities, and a Fellow of the American Academy of Arts and Sciences. He is the editor of several volumes, including This is Where I Came In: Black America in the 1960s (2003); The Sammy Davis, Jr., Reader (2001); The Muhammad Ali Reader (1998); Body Language: Writers on Sport (1998); and Speech and Power (1993).
