IPH majors work with a dedicated core of faculty members from a variety of disciplines who are their teachers, their research mentors, and their academic advisors. Participants in the project - both majors and faculty - work together to create a dynamic, stimulating environment of critical thought both in the class and outside.
One means of taking advantage of this community - and of contributing to it - is simply to hang out in our Program's common room, browsing in the library, and engaging faculty and peers in conversation. Another means is to join in on IPH Lyceum events. Each semester, the Lyceum coordinators designate ten widely-varying campus and community events to attend together - a lecture in the Assembly Series, a talk by an IPH faculty member, an exhibit at the Art Museum, an opera or theatrical performance. Find out more about the Lyceum here.
Students may know the faculty first as teachers or advisors. Soon they will get to know the faculty as the faculty know each other - as scholars engaged in advanced research and critical reflection. Many IPH majors gain access to this side of the faculty by serving as research assistants. Please see the next section of our website for research assistantship opportunities.
